Human Resources is an important part of any organisation. The employees you recruit can be the back bone of your business and have a large input into the success of the business.

For employees to work efficiently and effectively, certain needs must be met. This includes safety and security, a feeling of belonging, validation that they are doing a good job, and respect from colleagues and management.

The Human Resources department is responsible for putting systems, and documentation in place to ensure that all employees are satisfied and content. An initial document that is an integral part of Human Resources is Job/Position descriptions – this document outlines an employee’s tasks and responsibilities, and specifies exactly what the employee is accountable for. A Job description outlines to an employee their day to day activities and timeframes for completion. While providing employees with direction, it also assures employers that important tasks are being completed within the allocated time.

A performance appraisal document is completed in line with each employees Job Description. An organisation will complete a performance appraisal with each of their employees at least once a year. Employees appreciate feedback on the outcomes of their efforts. The performance appraisal is completed with the employee, their manager and a member of the human resources team. During a performance appraisal the Manager will discuss and note the results of the employee’s abilities against their tasks and responsibilities. It is an opportune time for the employee to discuss how they see their career progression and what further studies and training they would like to complete.

The combination of a well written Job Description and Performance Management document is a proven method of ensuring job satisfaction for the employee, in addition to assisting the employer with the knowledge that all areas of their organisation are functioning efficiently and productively.
